San Pedro salinas
Weather: Sky clear but hazy, wind SE F1, temp. 16ºC.  10:15 – 11:30.

I went over to the Salinas (saltpans) at San Pedro for a change of scenery, and also to see if any of the migrants that normally occur there had arrived yet.  There were 3 Sand Martins flying about and 4 Ruff and a couple of Little Stints on one of the lagoons, and numbers of Slender-billed Gulls (which breed here) seemed to be building up, but apart from that things were pretty quiet.

Calblanque, Los Belones (ringing)
Weather: Sky 3-4/8 cloud, wind SW F3, temp. 16-12ºC.  17:00 – 21:00.

This was the day that a birdringing campaign, organized by ANSE (Asociación de Naturalistas del SurEste) was going to start,  Hopefully this will run through on a weekly basis until the end of May.  I went down to the ringing area at 5pm, to find that the nets were already being set.  The first evenings capture was not numerous, but hopefully the first bird caught and ringed (a Hoopoe) is the sign of things to come.

Species seen
Stone Curlew (Burhinus oedicnemus)
Kestrel (Falco tinnunculus)
Robin (Erithacus rubecula) - ringed
Long-tailed Tit (Aegithalus caudatus) - ringed
